Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic-born, Swedish-Dominican American artist Tania Marmolejo was influenced by her Scandinavian and Caribbean heritage. The Artist majored in graphic design and illustration in Norway and studied fine arts at the Altos de Chavón School of Design. She continued her studies in fine arts and illustration at Parsons School of Design, graduating in 2000. Starting her career as an illustrator for the Fashion and Lifestyle section of Obsidiana Magazine in New York, she has designed characters and backgrounds for MTV, PBS, Hyperion/Disney, and Scholastic Books. As a Data Motion Art Studio animation team member, she has been awarded various ASIFA and CINE awards. In 2014, she represented the Dominican Republic with textile design at the 4th Ibero American Design Biennale held in Madrid, Spain. Tania Marmolejo has been exploring large-scale paintings of ambiguous female expressions by juxtaposing the intimate and personal with the monumental. The Artist uses portraits and physical expression as a communication system to transfer emotions into the viewers creating affective and emotional empathy.
