"While the female characters tend to be the protagonists, echoing my own experiences and emotions, I also use other characters and obiects that help create a narrative. Animals are my favorite characters used to create a storyline in my work."
The artist's second solo show in Asia, Marmolejo presents a new series of paintings in which she used the animals as metaphors for human experiences and feelings and as a dynamic counterpart to human characters. They can represent yet also blur the lines between joy and sorrow, pride and humiliation, fear and security, hope and despair, love and neglect, and provide endless possibilities for inspiration. They may be metaphors for feelings in the female character herself, metaphors for the way society interacts with these characters, or may even represent a specific person. She leaves the conversation open and the possibility for the viewer to decide for themselves.

In this new series of works, she used the animals in a mostly humorous way to tell a story of how we may see ourselves, or interact with others, reminding herself and the viewers that we are also animals, after all. They can be enjoyed simply represented as they are, but also searching for a deeper level in the painting as well.

오랜 세월 동안 동물은 인간의 경험과 감정에 대한 은유로, 그리고 인간 캐릭터에 대한 역동적인 조응물로 사용되어 왔다. 동물은 기쁨과 슬픔, 자존감과 수치심, 공포와 안전, 희망과 절망, 사랑과 무시를 표상하면서 동시에 그 경계들을 모호하게 만들고 무한한 영 감의 가능성을 제공한다. 동물은 여성 캐릭터 자신의 내재적 감정에 대한 은유일 수도 있고, 사회가 이러한 캐릭터와 상호 작용하는 방식에 대한 은유일 수도 있으며, 특정 인 물을 상징할 수도 있다. 작가는 이에 대한 대화의 창을 열어두고 관객이 스스로 결정할 수 있는 가능성을 남겨 둔다.
아시아에서 두 번째 개인전인 《또 다른 자아》 전시 작품에서 말모레호는 동물을 유머러스한 방식으로 사용하여 우리가 자신을 어떻게 보는지 또는 타인과 상호 작용하는지에 대한 이야기를 들려주고 자신과 관객에게 결국 우리도 동물이라는 것을 상기시킨다. 동물은 단순히 표현된 그대로의 모습으로 감상할 수도 있지만, 작품 내의 보다 심화된 차원을 모색할 수도 있다. 그녀는 그림을 미리 스케치하지 않기 때문에 작품 속 캐릭터들의 표정과 감정이 작가의 즉각적인 감정의 자연스러운 산물이 되도록 테크닉을 느슨히 하고 스케치 기법을 유지하였다.
